06/04/08 Bar Hill Away April 9, 2008 This was a very evenly balanced game, which could quite easily have gone either way. First blood went to Ely when Dominic Hunt and Charlie Root played a one two on the half way line, Root then dribbled the ball right into the opposition penalty area before blasting his shot high past the keeper who couldn’t stop the ball entering the net despite getting his finger tips to it. It was then Bar Hill who scored, Ely failed to clear properly following a melee in their penalty area and the ball broke to a Bar Hill player on the edge of the area and his firm shot went through a crowd of players before eluding Ely keeper Liam Walker low down to his right. The half ended 1 vs 1 with the promise of another great half to come.Bar Hill took the initiative early in the second half scoring with an excellent shot into the top corner from just outside the area. Ely continued to pass the ball well and their reward came when the ball bounced to Root who at fully 35 yards out unleashed a thunderous volley which dipped over the keeper into the back of the net. The game continued to be played in an excellent spirit by both teams with the action moving from end to end, it was Bar Hill who grabbed the winner though with a great header from a corner. Ely didn’t give up and Ryan Dean rattled the bar with a shot from the edge of the area, but the equaliser just wouldn’t come. Root was named man of the match for Ely for his two excellent goals and a great all round performance. |
